Around what age does a baby know what a kiss is? I'm talking a family kiss, not the way you would kiss your SO!

I remember when my nieces were young, before they would leave, their mom would tell them to give everyone hugs and kisses, but I cant quite remember how young they were when they would actually give a kiss, rather than us giving them a kiss. So I was just wondering around what age babies usually realize what a kiss is and know how to kiss....a peck kiss.

  • My daughter is 24 mo. and she has been giving kisses goodnight, or to her sister when she says sorry for about 3 mo. now. I always taught her when she was young b/c I couldn't wait for the goodnight kisses. My youngest is 1 and I kiss her goodnight, or all-better on her boo boo's, but she doesn't understand it yet.

  • This is one of the cutest things that babies do. Kisses! My little guy started giving really noisey smootches around 1 year old.

  • my girls started "kissing" around 11 months. i could say "kisses?" and they'd give me a kiss on the cheek which of course was very slobbery and with tongue hanging out. i can now even say "give sister huggies, give sister kisses" and they do. they're twins and 15 months old.
