The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism?

Norman Matton Thomas (November 20, 1884 – December 19, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America.
Norman Thomas said, in a 1944 epoch speech:

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of “liberalism”, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

He went on to say: “I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.”

  • I guess he was right? Didn't Americans just adopt it in 2008 and it appears it was not knowingly.

Yes , and we see how well that works, don't we. The schools produce graduates who are functionally illiterate, the firemen get to the wrong address after your house burns down, and the police no longer prevent crime, they just try to stay afloat in the rising tide and solve some of the murders committed every day. Now these same incompetants want to take charge of our health--our very lives and the lives of our children?

  • A few socialized programs does not equate to a socialized form of government.

  • The socialist party and the progressives have been joined at the hip for well over 100 years. They have a very old tradition of joining forces to support the same candidate, which is why the Dem party is so f'd up today. So many naive dems have no idea where the true roots of the people in the party (not just the party name) lie. Social engineering, reeducation, the worst Machiavellian ideas all lie at the heart of the Democrats. Some people join because they think it's just the opposite of the Republicans, not even realizing they are supporting the ideals of eugenics, social engineering and medical experimentation to homogenize the race.

  • We have a lot of socialized programs. They just are not called that. More money comes out of my paycheck for social programs like medicare and social security than Federal taxes. What's wrong with that? I am paying $185 for both, $28 for Federal taxes. I am paying for socialized programs that are not even going to exist when I need them.

  • "We have a lot of socialized programs. They just are not called that. More money comes out of my paycheck for social programs like medicare and social security than Federal taxes. What's wrong with that? ..."

What you see being removed from your paycheck is only the tip of the iceberg. Employers are also required to chip in for those programs, and pay all kinds of other taxes as well. What is wrong with it is that if you could KEEP your money, and businesses could KEEP their money, we would have MORE JOBS, and more prosperity throughout the economy. The dollar would not be plummeting in value - last year, $100 could buy .143 oz of gold, now it can only buy .08 oz, and the price of gold continues to rise.
That's what's wrong with it - it is utterly destructive.
