I am sewing my first satin and lace dress, what is the best stitch pattern to use? Straight stitch or is soething else better to hold the fabric tighter?

  • Make sure you use the right needle, probably a 70/10. A rolled hem edge is good for satin, and if you don't serge the fabric edges, probably a french seam to give it the most professional finished look. Is the dress for a wedding?? I sometimes put tissue paper under a slippery fabric, or even between the fabrics to keep them from slipping, then just tear them out.

Good luck, and have fun!! Share pictures when you're done!!

  • straight stitch will work fine. you can use double needle and thread if you want though, or just serge it.
