Fur Rugs

I have a fur rug not sure what it is, I think its something from the family of rabbits (came from Afghanistan) anyways my kid dumped chocolate milk on it. I dried all the milk up and I scrubbed with water. Well now it looks matty and kinda sticky. So is the dry cleaner my only option?
