Why don't we just call the U.S. government a Dictatorship?

WASHINGTON -- In a last-ditch scheme in defiance of the Constitution, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her Democratic accomplices plan to send the Senate health care bill to President Obama without a clean, up-or-down vote on its merits.
As Democratic leaders struggled to find 216 votes to pass the bill by a majority vote, as required under the enacting procedures set forth in the Constitution, their fallback was a nefarious plan whereby the House would "deem" the legislation as passed so that vulnerable Democrats would not have to cast a recorded vote on the hugely unpopular bill. "Last year, the House was passing bills without reading them. This year, they're passing bills without voting on them," former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said last week.

  • To pass a massive bill like this without voting for it is an outright disgrace.

  • I doubt the votes are there or they would have done it already. They still have to vote on the rule and for some reason they think that we can't make the connection.

  • Because, the government wouldn't like that. Because, there's probably some secret agent red-flaging you as we speak for even asking this question. It shouldn't be long before the CIA is at your door to take your children, freeze your assets, sweep you off to Gitmo and deny you ever existed lol. Our government has WAY overstepped it's bounds in these late years, if it keeps going at this rate either we will end up with a Dictatorship or a revolution.

  • It is amazing to me really. Okay, the Republicans are the party of "no" so the poor Dems have to go off and do it alone. Now they can't agree and the far left part is going rogue and trying to deem it passed so they don't have to vote on it. This is insanity

  • There ARE millions of people who NEED Health Care. If you think we are under a Dictatorship, then MOVE. Go to Europe or Russia. Anywhere. You people are so spoiled.

  • I agree with Anon, there are people who NEED health care. However, if this bill is passed, there will still be people who NEED health care, Don't you get it, anon? This bill isn't about providing HEALTH CARE, it's about mandating HEALTH INSURANCE.

Millions of people in the U.S. will continue to be uninsured after this bill passes. This bill does not provide health care for everyone. At least know what you are talking about.

  • Bear in mind the health care coverage does not start immediately after the bill is passed. We pay for it for 4 years then the benefits kick in. If you'r uninsured now, you will remain so for the foreseeable future.
