  • My grandmother had my mother when she was 40, and that was in 1954 - so no I don't!

  • nope. some risks are higher though. just something to be aware of.

    my mom had her last child at 37 and my step mom i think was 38 when she had her last.

    A woman’s risk of having a baby with Down syndrome is:

    * At age 25, 1 in 1,250
    * At age 30, 1 in 1,000
    * At age 35, 1 in 400
    * At age 40, 1 in 100

    imo that does not mean that 36 is too old to have a baby.

  • IMO, no. But you may be labeled high risk by your OB. My grandmother had my mom when she was 42. In 1948. The doctors were so sure that there would be something wrong with my mom, that grandma was looking into institutions.

  • No. One of my best friend's has 3 kids - born when she was 30, 35, and 43. The one born when she was 30 has Down's, the other two are typical - there are no guarantee's in life.
    I used to think that it was too old, I had planned to have all my kids in my 20s and I had my first three then. I divorced when I was 32 and married a man who didn't have any children. I am now 36 and pregnant with "our" 5th (his 2nd bio). I'm still definitely young enough and have enough energy to play with them, but I also have the wisdom and patience that comes with age. I'm a much more confident, self assured mother. I think there are advantages and disadvantage to having children at any age.
