Around 100,000 federal employees owe the U.S. roughly $1 billion in back taxes and one Republican lawmaker thinks they should pay up or lose their jobs.

How would losing their jobs help in any way? They should simply have money taken from their paychecks.

Why is it OK for a federal employee to not pay their taxes, avoid the penalties (jail?), and go blithely on their way, when each and every one of us would be in jail as soon as they could type up the papers??? THIS is what is wrong with the country! And, as grly said, an example of why we need a FAIR TAX!

Why is there any question about this? Of COURSE, they should pay up, or lose their job AND go to jail!

Hell, my ex husband hasn't filed taxes in 10 years. Owns his own business, pays his employees cash under the tabel so that he doesn't have to pay into ss/medicare and has never had a knock on the door from the IRS.

It won't happen to the fed employees. They will get by with it. Yet it is those of us who are honest and file every year on time that would get the slap in the face if we strayed!!

Sounds good. In fact, they can pay their taxes or go to jail for tax evasion. Think of the jobs that would open up!
