Color of snot?!

So I have heard that if your childs snot is green, they have an infection of some sort? Is this true? My lo has been teething so his nose has been running a lot here lately (cutting his top molars). But a couple of times I have used the bulb on his nose and the snot has been bright green. Now its not a constant green...usually its clear just here and there (mostly at night time) its green. Any ideas on this?

  • I think you are right. Snot comes in many colors and can be a good indication of whats going on. Usually when my babes teethed, they would have clear mucus....all three of them. THen they would have a bit of diarreha too. Time to stock up lots of popscicles!

  • When my babies are teething, it's always been clear. Even when they had colds. If it's green they need to see a doctor and get an antibiotic.

  • Whenever my son is starting to come down with a cold or was teething, his snot was clear. But two days into the cold, the snot was green. Gross!

  • Boogies are always different colors! Sometimes they are blood tinged (*due to either a nose bleed or dry air). When my LO just cut her bottom 1st tooth she did have a runny nose. But I noticed when I suctioned her nostrils they were either clear, or if they were dried and stuck in her nose, then they were either yellow, or green. It all just depends. Sometimes in the morning when I awake I have greenish yellow boogers and I am not sick. It doesn't mean they have an infection! Could also be allergies... But I do know that when you are getting over a sickness your boogers start to turn a green color also.. normally like lime green and bright yellow! lol, that's my experience anyhow!

  • If it is anything BUT clear then it's infection. Take to the doctor!

  • OMG people lets give these kids antibiotics for a possible viral infection that with no fever or any other symptom their body is handling just fine!!!!! Geesh come on people. Snot comes in all colors with or without out bacteria or viruses and our doc says not to worry unless they are having other symptoms or it doesn't go away on it's own in a week or so.
