  • Meat, especially ground meat, which includes meat from thousands of animals all mixed together. With fruits and vegetables, the problem is usually contamination from manure from a nearby dairy, feedlot, or chicken farm due to storm runoff.

  • Anything. It just depends on the company and their policies. Most of the recalls I've seen have been that the foods have been exposed to (insert infectious agent here) because of something not being cleaned properly or similar things.

  • I agree with LokisMama, I mean right now there's that huge recall with all sorts of food items containing hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, there was the peanut recall, but normally lately I've been seeing ground beef recalls everywhere because of e-coli contamination. It is, like a PP said, because when they make ground beef, they use leftover meat pieces from many many different cows in one batch of ground beef. So when you buy a package of ground beef, you are eating the meat of a lot more animals than if you just get a whole piece of meat from one animal. You can always find a list of current recalls at

    www.recalls.org

I always check there before I go get groceries.

  • Formulas, which is really scary because it's something given to kids who are still so teeny. Also meats and boxed foods. Seems like the salmonella is always showing up in boxed foods.
