does anyone else's kid do this?

Everywhere we go, if my son see's an older woman or man he calls them mawmaw or pawpaw, even if they don't look anything like any of his grandparents. Like waiters at restraunts, random people in stores, cashiers, everyone. Is it a stage, or is it just cause he wants to call them that? He can be goofy sometimes.

  • Yep, but my daughter just waves and smiles at them like they are my grandparents. I always think that... She only waves to old people lol... Must feel comfortable around them I guess.

  • dd does that with older people. Her grandparents are 1500 miles away but dh and I have her talk to them on the phone. Because she can't remember who they are, she calls random people gamma or gampa.

  • My kids didn't do this but sometimes will say "she is someone's Grandma" or we will say "that boy's mommy". I know that person may not have grandchildren, or may not be the mother, but I don;t see anything wrong with my kids making assumptions just by looking. We do that in books, sometimes!

Like if we say is that (bear or squirrel) a girl? We'll all give our opinions, then as we read, we may find out as "he" or "she" is used.
