Bad dreams?

My three year old daughter says that her room has monsters in it and will not sleep in there without a light. She used to sleep with me in my room, but insisted that there were"bad men" in there. She would even point in the same spot every time, when asked to show wear they are. What is going on is this normal?

  • Shadows and stuff. Nothing to worry about. Maybe get her a night light? That helped with my DD.

  • My son used to talk about a man in his room towards the door. he doesn't remember it. Never saw anything or heard anything and it really didn't bother him.

  • Children and animals tend to be able to see things that we adults sometimes can not... she could very well be seeing something, if you are a Christian, you could ask your pastor/minster to bless your home, or ask the spirit/ghost/bad dream to leave your dd alone and that it's not welcome in your home, or cleanse your home yourself with sage...
or another factor is that she was so use to sleeping with you that she is not comforable in her room at all... and has these dreams so that she can be with you....
Ask her if she can describe her dream... is it the same one all the time?... sit with her at night and show her that there are no monsters or let her point to the area if she thinks she see them while you are with her...
It is not unusual for children to think there are monsters in the closet... shadows of objects can cause shapes and spooks too...
    Hugs to the little one...

  • 3 is about the age kids get very good imaginations.. so monsters can start to appear & night mares may even start around this age. totally normal...
Not only will they be scared of monsters but blame things on them too.. kids see "truth" very different than us.. Its funny/annoying but dd will say "the monster stole my pants" when she doesnt want to put them all.. lol she will kinda stuff them somewhere..

so... do something to battle those monsters ... make up a potion to keep the monsters away- a spray bottle with a light scent in it, or hang something in your childs room & tell her it keeps the monsters away (dream catcher)....
    good luck!

  • Actually, age 3 is the age that they first begin to see their guardian spirits/angels and spirit guides. Guardians appear as dark shadows when they are on duty because, spiritually speaking, black is the color of protection. Red apparitions are the ones you want to avoid. They can be a frightening sight to a child. Discuss it with her. Ask her if they ever hurt her or come towards her. If they are protectors they will not behave in a threatening manner. And if she tells them to disappear (or you both do together) and if they are guardians, they will obey and she will stop seeing them, even tho they will remain there to protect her. Has she mentioned the number 3, because I see three angels around her? Give her an angel night light for a few years. The spirits usually stop being visible once the child reaches the age of 6 or so.

  • It's really had to say. I do believe children can be more in tune to spirits, but they also have a big imagination and fears at this age are common. They are at an age were they are just starting to understand that there are good and bad people, so it can be really scary.
