Why do some Christians get offended when other believers call god by a different name?

We are all speaking of the same god. Does the name we use really matter? Also why do some get offended when others get a different take on the bible. Do we not all perceive things differently? Do we not all have the same goal of love and kindness?

  • "Some people are more interested in being right than they are in what the words mean."

This ^. It's nitpicking, it's a really stupid thing to attack somebody else about, really. And that crap about "true Christians should all perceive the Bible in the same way"...LOL, ever heard of the telephone game? Seriously, I could whisper in somebody's ear that "my cat is brown" and by the time it reached the end of the line it could be "My Aunt always wears a frown." I think most people who read the Bible and are guided by the Holy Spirit should get the same gist, but as far as specifics, no two people are alike, no two people think exactly the same way and it's just not very realistic to think any two people are going to see the exact same thing in the text all the time. Anybody who insists that "true" Christians" will is one of those people who finds being 'right' more important than what the words mean.

  • Because I am sick of going into posts and seeing some one attack someone over the name they use for god. It is not that important. It's bad enough some attack other religions, but then we attack those in our own over the name they use.

  • At my old job, there are all kinds of assorted Christians. In particular is a charismatic lay-pastor and a fundamentalist. The fundy does not cut her hair or wear pants, only dresses or skirts. One day the lay pastor had the nerve to tell her (the fundy) that what she was doing was a personal choice not scripture based, and that she was lying to tell people it was a Christian belief. Some people are more interested in being right than they are in what the words mean.

but you are making it important. In fact, you are really bringing it to the front. If you are sick of it, then ignore it.

All true Christians have the Holy Spirit within them so we should all perceive things the same way the Bible is not hard to understand and the Holy Spirit guides us to perceive it the way it should be. The Bible is not up to our own interpretation. If you read a Bible verse and don't get the point then maybe you aren't filled with the Spirit.

Actually no sorry. Some who speak the original language of the bible would perceive it different. Translation aren't always truly translated because there is no way to truly translate certain words no straight across translations. There are also many versions of the bible ex. king James, new living trans. They each say things diff. so they can be perceived dif. The words in king James version are defined dif. than they are often perceived in original form.

Putting it out there is not making it important. This is in response to several posts I saw where these were make into serious issues. I'm pointing out it shouldn't be a problem or became a reason for an argument. If wrongs were never pointed out people of color, and woman would not have rights. We would still own slaves and the holocaust would've never been stopped.

  • Because some Christians can't understand or accept that different people have different relationships with God, and that their way isn't the only right way to relate to or understand Him.
