constipated 5 month old?

ok, so i've been keeping a 5 month old during the day..today he was dropped off and his dad told me he was constipated..well, i gave him prunes for lunch, and that helped a little, but not enough..i changed his diaper, and noticed a little spot on his bottom, maybe like a hemroid?, i don't know what to compare it to, but im going to bring it up today when he's picked up..but we don't know whats causing him to be so constipated..he said they gave him benadryl to help with his allergies and thats the only thing they've done different..any thought on what could be causing this? i feel so bad for the little guy, but i know theres nothing i can do about it either..:(

  • Well is he on formual? Sometimes iron fortified milk stops them up. The prunes are a good idea and Karo dark syrup helps. Tell the parent. The pharmacist can tell them if it's the allergy meds or not. either way, the kids needs more veggies, fruit and water.

  • The same thing happened to my nephew when he was that age, my sister gave him watered down fruit juice until he was able to get things moving, it took a few days but it worked.
