Does your Insurance cover for ABA therapy? (Autism Forum)

If you live in NY it might.
March 19, 2010
Friday brings fantastic news for families in New York dealing with the challenges of autism. We are happy to announce that Assemblyman Joe Morelle has introduced A. 10372 , which will require health insurance to provide coverage for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder.

This groundbreaking legislation has no age or dollar caps and will require private insurance coverage of evidence-based autism treatments like speech, occupational and physical therapies as well as behavioral treatments like applied behavior analysis. Protection is provided in the legislation for educational services provided for under an IEP, ISP or IFSP.

  • In Texas, Medicaid does not pay for ABA therapy, and we can't get our ASD child on private insurance, due to Autism being a pre-existing condition.

  • In Pennsylvania your private health insurance is required to pay for the first $35, 000 of coverage for any & all treatments related to the diagnosis of or the treatment of an Autism Spectrum Disorder as long as the evaluation/treatment is evidence based.
