are babies supposed to have poor coloring in the face?

like sometimes a little pale and circles around the eyes or a little red in the face

is it normal for babies to look like that sometimes?

  • Yes.

    It's unusual (and the sign of bad things) for babies to have dark eye circles, greyish colour, pale skin with bright red cheek circles (usually with bright red lips),, pale skin overall or patchy yellowish skin. It is also bad to have papery, sunken or crinkly skin on their faces.

    Red blotches, pale-side-up (when they're really young, and have a darker-side-down) and patches of pale skin are not unusual. A midwife once quipped that you can tell when everyone important has met the baby, because it's after that the skin conditions all clear up...

  • My daughter looks pale with circles under her eyes sometimes when she's tired. but when she's up and playing she looks healthy.
