  • Are you changing one dipe per day of life? If so, he's getting enough. One dipe per day of life for the first week. 6-8 per day therafter.

  • What gdiamante said :) his tummy is the size of a marble. It will slowly stretch bigger, but don't stuff him if he's not hungry.

  • What did they tell you at the hospital? If he is not doing what they told you at the hospital then do what the hospial told you to do - call them, call your baby's doctor, take him to an urgent care center, or take him to the ER. Don't trust your baby's health to cafemom.

  • BREAST milk or FORMULA? It makes a HUGE difference what my answer is.

Breast milk? A 3 day old would likely still be getting colostrum. Is your milk not in yet?? an ounce of colostrum is a LOT of colostrum and that is totally fine. 1 diaper per day per day of life til day 5-6 when you can expect 6 or so. Expect 3 diapers today and 4 diapers tomorrow and your milk may come in tomorrow. How often are you pumping? Hopefully EVERY HOUR waking and every 2 hours sleeping until your milk comes in.

If it is formula, NO.. that is probably not enough. Try to get him to eat more formula. Formula has 20 calories per ounce. Colostrum has --50-- calories per ounce. Try to get your baby to eat more of the formula.

Or, conversely, stop the formula and put your baby to your breast .. You are only 3 days in you could easily get your milk in!
