Should schools allow same-sex prom dates?

Is a prom just for heterosexual teens or should gay teens also be allowed to celebrate?

  • A prom is a school sponsored event. If the students sexual identity doesn't stop them from being taught at the school (and instruction is certainly a school sponsored event), there is no justification for limiting attendance based on something completely irrelevant to the event. This is sexual discrimination at the very least.

My daughter attended prom with her best friend. They wore matching dresses, took pictures, danced together and it was a great friend date. Anyone who asked were informed that they had been together for years.  :)  No one batted an eye.

Those who complain need to seriously reevaluate their personal priorities.

  • Yes, and for that matter, the ones that have a policy that you must have a date are ridiculous, too. Talk about encouraging the cliques.

  • Yes, they should be allowed to attend. Sexual orientation should NOT be a cause for discrimination.

  • There is no reason to ban them...that is just wrong.

  • Yes why not. That is the real world. Kids at that age already know anout gay relationships.

  • LOL all of my friends with with other girls to prom, but mostly just because they couldn't get a date. Why should schools have any say in something like this?

  • yes. why is it okay for 2 female friends to dance together at prom but a lesbian couple cant?

in my high school they didnt dis-allow same sex prom dates, but they didnt allow same sex couples to buy couple tickets. the school claimed that any 2 friends could buy couple tickets at the discount price and that would be unfair to "real" couples. it was their way of making most same sex couples have to pay more to go to prom together. but then my high school had a large amount of homosexuals and the school woulda lost money on prom if they didnt allow same sex prom dates.
