  • Oh, I'm so sure they are. The Congress is exempt. Why not the Exectutive Branch.

  • Because people have put their blinders on and allowed the elitest politicians to walk all over Americans with their 'let them eat cake' mentality...

  • Because they know what is in it.
Unfortunately, they don't know what ISN'T in it.

  • According to this: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/sep/11/chain-email/64000-question-e-mail-says-congress-exempt-health-/

that is not correct... However, I'm aware this is from August 2009, so I could be wrong. Do you have a link to show that is in fact the case now?

  • "The bill requires “congressional staff” to buy insurance from the exchanges – with a stipend from the Office of Personnel Management But page 158 of the bill defines “congressional staff” narrowly, as “employees employed by the official office of a member of Congress, whether in the district office or in Washington.”

The Congressional Research Service believes a court could rule that the legislation "would exclude professional committee staff, joint committee staff, some shared staff, as well as potentially those staff employed by leadership offices.”

It's too long to fit - Grassley tried to get them to fix it and they rejected it, so now he's trying to get it into that amendment bill they still have to pass. In the meantime, unless he gets it approved, all the execs and their staffs are exempt.

  • Don't gov't employee's (like Congress & WH) already get a "special" plan - that the rest of us don't have access to?

  • Maybe because they already have health care? That seems so obvious to me.........

Small words, sweetie. They don't have to pay the extra tax for having health plans that are better than normal - the "cadillac plans" that all us mere mortals will be taxed on if we don't give them up and downgrade.
