Should we really pay for this?

By 57-42, Democrats rejected an amendment by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., barring federal purchases of Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs for sex offenders. Coburn said it would save millions of dollars, while Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., called it "a crass political stunt."

Dems call it a stunt but should we actually be required to pay for sex offenders Viagra? The tossing of this would save millions and thats whats important now. I don't think there is anything saying sex offenders should be entitled to Viagra etc.

We already do. We also pay for their sex change operations and the related continuing hormone therapy while they are incarcerated, and we pay for organ transplants for convicted felons--including those on death row.
Joe Murderer gets a perfectly good liver and the attendant expensive surgery to transplant it into him, so that eventually they can carry out the execution he was sentenced to. That liver could have saved the life of a child, or a loving parent... Would make better sense to let Ol' Joe die of his liver disease, ya think?

Cite proof please. No prisoner has ever had a sex change operation They have filed suit for it numerous times but not succeeded. Nor are they getting organs any to frequently.

  • Why is he just now bringing this up? Shouldn't this have been brought up and been included in the bill in the first place?

If it's so important, why doesn't he just make a new bill? He'd have about 90 co-sponsors within 15 minutes.
