Did anyone hear about the legalization of recreational marijuana in California?

They are saying that the taxes would bring money to the already deficit that California is enduring.

  • I have health insurance, and I think paying an additional $ 50.00 on an ounce is a bit much. Now if they wanted to just charge sales tax based on the original price, that would work well. And like someone already replied, it should be quality to be paying an additional $ 50.00, otherwise they wont make any extra money....

  • By a 4-3 vote, the members of the committee approved the bill sponsored by San Francisco Assemblyman Tom Ammiano. AB390 would allow for the possession, sale and cultivation of marijuana for people over the age of 21, and also impose a $50-an-ounce sales tax, like those on tobacco and alcohol.

  • Good for them. Sometimes you gotta get creative to get your self out of debt. No worse than the companies that produce liquor.

  • Proponents say the marijuana 'fee' could help solve California's financial crisis by raising up to $990 million from the fees.

Marijuana has been illegal in the U.S. since 1913.

  • Well, it's not legalized yet. It's up for voting in November.

Secondly, I'm not so sure they're going to make all the revenue they THINK they will if they're charging a $50/ounce tax on top of the regular price. Many people would rather continue to buy it illegally than pay that.

  • Funny how people can come up with a $50/ounce for Marijuana, PLUS the cost of the stuff, but are unable to pay for their OWN health care premiums!

What are you talking about? The $50 tax has not yet been imposed. It won't be until the bill passes.
