What exactly is "preventive care"?

Why does President Obama believe firmly in preventive care. Last time I check he is just a lawyer. And what about trying to make people change their life style habits. Good luck with that DEms!

  • Never heard of it. Preventative care has to do with educating people to live healthier lifestyles plus screening for diseases before they become major problems.

  • uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, preventative care makes better sense than to wait until it's broke and takes more medical dollars to fix it.

  • I'm conservative.

But I know preventative care also involves a lot of regular check-ups, vaccinations, and screenings.

One of the reasons the US has a significantly higher rate of prostate cancer survival compared to other countries is that it's common practice in the US for guys to regularly get checked for prostate cancer before signs of it ever show up.

I rarely find myself agreeing with Obama, but I agree with him here....where we start to disagree is on how it should be paid for :)

  • have you been inspired by Blech to seek the secret meanings of the most mundane phrases? are you really to obtuse to decipher the meaning of the concept? should it take a doctor to figure out the wisdom in it?

  • Because in other countries that have universal healthcare "preventative care" is supposed to keep the costs down. The doctors get bonuses based on how sick or how healthy their patient load is. So if you push diet and exercise on your overweight patients to keep them healthy you will make more money. If you can get the guy with high cholesterol to lower it with diet instead of drugs, bonus. They really are a bunch of pamphlet pushers. Frontline sometimes runs a rerun of a show where they investigate healthcare in other countries. If it ever comes on watch it. It is interesting.
