our daughter has a real dark ring around her lip. We have been to sevral docs.

What do we do? No one cares about the problem and it is getting worse?

  • Is it around the entire mouth? Does she like her lips? If so and If the skin is dark you may need to use prescription bleaching cream like Lustra or Epiquin to bring the skin to the right color. If the skin is irritated and red then you may have to use a medication to stop the inflammation like Elidel, a prescription, or over the counter Cortaid or Cortisone 10.

I would most DEFINITELY keep trying more and more doctors. While you are doing so, Keep her hydrated. Lots and Lots of water. Keep vaseline and nasty tasting lip balm on her lips to try to curb the desire to lick.

I'm sorry you are dealing with that. Good luck mommy.

  • If several doctors haven't helped, I don't think moms here can help with the limited info you have given.

  • Lip balms actually make it worse. They pull out the moisture and make your lips "feel" moisturized. (If their products actually worked then they would be out of business because they wouldn't be selling very much). I suggest just using vaseline right out of the jar.
It sounds like severely chapped lips to me. Good luck!
