What can I do to relieve constipation?

I've tried everything I know. I've given my 8 month old apple juice, apple sauce, and been trying to give her water in a sippy, but it hasn't helped at all to soften her stools. I'm not sure what else there is to do. Please Help.

  • Karo syrup. Add a tablespoon to her bottle wait 10 hours or so, if no poop give another one...after 24 hrs...no poop make it a tablespoon and a half. Or, you can try feeding her a jar of babyfood prunes. Both suggestions came from my Mamo, she was a pediatric nurse for more than 40 years.

  • Yep Karo syrup. It doesn't cause gas and it works like a mild laxative.

  • NO KARO SYRUP!!!!! Karo syrup is a botulism risk which can be deadly in infants!!! NEVER USE KARO!!!

Stage 1 Prunes!  Are you making sure to keep up with the amount of formula / breastmilk baby is to have?  Food should be given after formula or breastmilk, not before.

  • NO Karo syrup. Don't believe me? Go to Karo.com and look for yourself. I need to know the symptoms, last time she went, consistency, and overall diet before I can give you any suggestions.

  • my doc. told me karo syrup but this was like 4 years ago...it worked wonders...we had tried suppositories and such but nothing worked...after giving her a little syrup in her bottle she pooped within an hour and we didn't need to do it again after that...but ask your doctor if you are not sure..good luck :)
