Can poor people go to Heaven?

We know that rich people give lots and lots of money to charities and to churches to ensure a place in Heaven. But what can the poor do to secure a place in Heaven?

  • Say if a man or a woman donates a large sum of money to a church and nothing else..... and another man or women donates their time and effort to helping the church in activities, cleaning, cooking, fixing things etc... Who do you think god is going to accept more? the one who just gave money to help... which is the easy, lazy way out.... or the other persons who gave their time, blood and sweat?

  • Umm believe and trust in God. Charities and church offerings don't promise you a spot. It is not a call ahead reservation type thing.

  • Catholic Church didn't think so back in Martin Luther's time. Even though they were forced to pay half their income in tithes to the church, they'd still have to save up to buy "indulgences" so they would be able to get into heaven. Otherwise they were doomed to stay in purgatory.

  • Of course the poor can go to heaven.
Have you heard the bible story about the rich people giving a bunch of money, and the poor old woman giving a single coin. Jesus says that the poor woman actually gave more, because that small amount was all she had. No one can pay their way into heaven. To "secure a place", people just have to be faithful to God and follow his commandments.

  • Anon 3:59 - There are a lot of things the Catholic Church (and other religions for that matter) have gotten wrong throughout the years. I'm sure God looks at those "indulgences" and just shakes his head.

  • Poor people may not have donated money, but I am sure they have donated clothes they no longer need. I don't think it matters how much you donate as long as you donate. Even with that being saId, I don't think there is a place in heaven for snobs, they'd be too afraid to be sitting next to the poor smelly folks

  • You don't get to Heaven by deeds and donations. You get there with a simple belief that jesus is the son of God and believe in him as your salvation. So yes poor people get there. A lot of rich folks won't get there bc they didn't believe in what they should believe in as "the love of money is the root of all evil"

  • Giving money to charity doesn't ensure you a spot in Heaven. In my opinion, being a good person does. I also think that poor people tend to be better people at heart sometimes, so they may have a better shot at heaven. Money often leads to greed, and many other sins.
