  • I am guessing that this is referring to the Health care bill that just passed and was signed into law. You see, while they were busy making you think it was all about you, they were protecting their own cadillac plans and aren't subject to the same requirements that you, me and the rest of the tax paying citizens that aren't elected officials are exempt from. An amendment like the one above would make them live like the rest of us. That's precisely why it will never pass.

  • Makes sense to me! They might start to think about what they want to pass if this was law...maybe they might even start READING the $#@%#$@$ bills!

  • Congressmen and women pay taxes (those that choose too, anyway), they pay into social security and medicare, and they have to pay at least a portion of their health insurance, just like every other of the 8 million government employees with the same insurance. Some have great HMO's, no doubt, but not unlike anything that a good corporation would offer.

  • State employees and congress men/women do NOT pay into social security, they have their own thing they pay into.

  • Polling shows that a majority think term limits would be a good thing. There's no need to try and convince them to vote themselves out of a job ~ the states can do it themselves. The provisions are there even if it's never been used. Set the term limits, dump their retirement, and get rid of the campaing funding all at the same time. Give them free air time on one channel and radio, and let them convince people to vote for them. If they also have to keep their day jobs it would cut down on all the spending and partying in DC as well.

Making sure that they have to obey the same laws they enact for the rest of us (including those pertaining to discrimination and OSHA violations) definitely should be included. All other employees have a 'job description' somewhere ~ and no others are allowed to write their own. Servants definitely should have to do what they get paid to do. It's time to put them on a leash.

Wrong. Ronald Reagan passed the Social Security Amendments in 1983 that required all goverment workers, including all of Congress, the President, and Vice President pay into social security.
