Dont know what to say to make him.. we want him to take it back..

Ok, to sum this story up, lol... We we're using our income tax money to have our wedding in June. But we had a fire, and we rent so we have to pay for the damage. Well our pastor stopped by yesterday after church and gave us a check wrote out for almost $300. Which was way too much, plus we were just going to use our taxes, we tried to tell him we didnt need it, and that it was really nice, but we couldnt accept it. But he said it was a done deal, and we had to. but we feel really bad for taking it. And I dont know what to do about it, or what even to say to him, or anything.

  • I think it was a nice gesture. But, if you really don't want to take the money you can always have the check cashed and put the money back in the collection plate on sunday.

  • Just say thank you! They wanted to help you out and it was a wonderful gesture. Pay it forward some day or make a donation back to the church at a later date.

  • Putting it back at church would be great, or explain to him that you planned on using your tax refund, and although you appreciate it greatly you would prefer he gave it so someone else who REALLY needed it, not just to someone who could use it. If you are in denial and REALLY could use it then take it and show him you appreciate it by helping him out in another way, maybe by volunteering? Helping out with a event?

  • You're hurting him by not accepting his gift. He wants to help. He may be in the position to, and you're shutting him down. Put yourself in his shoes. How would you feel if you wanted to help and were turned away?
