My daughter just turned a yr. She loves to feed herself...and I let her. When would be a good time to introduce a spoon (so she can attempt to spoon feed herself)?

  • Now. Start showing her how. I gave my kids all a spoon at 9 months. She won't use it much, of course, but having it there helps.

  • i agree with previous poster, my son just turned a year saturday and he will stick the correct tip of the spoon in his mouth, but he just can't figure out how to get anything on it without holding it on it.

  • I started giving my 11 month old a spoon at 6 months. I gave my oldest a spoon at 5 months. I gave my second one a spoon at 6 months too. I also started giving them forks early. My 11 month old makes a mess but he will figure it out soon.

  • I gave all mine a spoon when I started feeding them - it kept hands occupied and out of their mouths, and got them used to it.
