How do you know if someone is lacking in prenting skills on here?

If one of us moms posts a question about one of our children, asking for advice on a certain behavior,Iwould like to know how some of you know right off the bat that that parent is lacking in parenting skills?

  • I don't see anyway that someone can know "right off the bat" whether a person is lacking parenting skills or not. It would take much more insight and information and knowing the person to be able to even THINK we had the knowledge to make that sort of judgement call.

  • well it would depend on the behavior and perception of an individual. some people feel that a child trowing a tantrum is unacceptable behavior, therefor, if a child has been allowed to do so, a person might assume that the parenting skills of that particular mother are lacking.

  • There are key things to look for; the child is out of control, the mother mentions violence like spanking or hitting, there are unreasonable expectations for the child's age, the child is having tantrums, the mother says she has tried everything but only mentions punishment, or the mother says the child won't listen and really means obey.

  • people are lacking in parenting skills when you read about how they rediculously handled a situation or hit too often , or curse and vent a little too boisterously!!! Maybe Im a little biased, but a good parent really knows how to appropriatly handle a situation even if they dont know what the issue nessacarly is!

  • hard to know 100% another person's situation.... but some of the back stories given on here are a bit outrageous.  I bet two people could post the same problem and one have an acutal issue and the other have the result of bad parenting skills.... so it is hard to tell 100% which is which.

  • OH no...anon here is NOT holding a grudge. I just keep seeing these rude responses to moms simply asking for advice. Now, whose advice would you take more seriously...the one who answers nicley with a realistic view or the one who puts you down and says you have no parenting skills, go take a class?
