  • I do always wonder if white moms will buy their children black dolls though?

  • i dont remember having any that were black. however, do remember having a native american one.....i didnt have a lot of dolls though. and i dont think my mom was the primary buyer of my dolls/barbies. if she was, its possible they would have been more diverse....but i honestly dont even remember noticing as a kid. i noticed more what color hair. i remember being excited that the christmas family of barbies i got one year for christmas had brown hair and not blonde - since i have brown hair. that was VERY big since i still remember it and i was like 3 at the time.

i haven't bought any barbies or dolls yet for my DD. she is 21 months and other people have bought her a couple dolls and barbies. they have all been white so far. it is definately and interesting topic.

  • I was never allowed to play with dolls of any color. My mom said it was dumb and only bought me books and learning games.

  • I am not Black.........BUT I buy my daughters black and hispanic dolls. My girls are biracial. Growing up I only had blonde blue eyed dolls and sometimes brunettes with colored eyes or blondes with brown eyes (you get the idea). I am so glad now they have so many options! I am getting my daughter an Asian doll next. I know she will LOVE IT!

Biracial people are the most GORGEOUS people on the planet! IMO

  • SInce I am Chinese and Mexican I get no special dolls just for me. I remember the first hispanic looking Barbie I got, I was so excited! I don't buy my daughter dolls yet, but once I do, I will buy her all kinds, white, black, Chinese, etc.

  • I'm white and my daughter is like a quarter Mexican, but of course looks Mexican because darker genes often dominate. So far she has two cloth brown dolls that I ordered on the internet, they are gorgeous and she loves them. She also has a Dora the Explorer doll and one Tinker Bell doll (courtesy of her Aunt). I think it's weird for her to have a doll with boobs... but she just points to it and says Milk. I will buy her whatever dolls she likes- black, asian, white, hispanic.... doesn't matter to me. I dislike barbies though and probably won't buy them and probably won't buy her baby dolls until/if she requests them. IDK, I just like her dolls to be more like little friends than either crazy-proportioned women or babies she's meant to care for. Then again, she already calls her "friend" dolls baby. lol.
