Ok, what is the deal with this?

Ok, I was raised Christian, so I know the "true" reason behind it. But what I don't get is if he died on the cross on Good Friday, and he was in the tomb for 3 days, how would he have risen on Sunday? I mean, is my math off or are we just "celebrating" the resurrection on the wrong day?
And, just so you know, I am no longer a Christian. Just asking cause I was confused by this.

  • Just like your birthday doesn't fall on the same day every year, Jesus didn't die on a Friday every year. He was dead for 3 days. This is not necessarily 72 hours, just parts of those three days.

  • Matthew 20:19 (New International Version)
19and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!"
