  • Bronchitis is contagious. It's in the lungs, so can be spread just by breathing. The ear infections and sinus infections are not contagious. I have chronic ear/sinus infections, and chronic resp infections. i was always allowed to go right back to work with sinus and ear infections, not until antibiotics with resp infection. Supposedly, 24 hours after they start antibiotics they shouldn't be contagious but I'm not sure if it's different with kids.

  • Not all infections are contagious. If the sick child is on antibiotics, they are not contagious 24 hrs after starting the meds. Ear infections and sinus infections are not necessarily contagious but if they are bacterial in nature they can be. I really don't worry about it, because kids and adults are exposed to many germs everyday.

  • Yes, your son could get sick. Those things you mentioned are caused by viruses or bacteria. Bacterial infections are often no longer contagious after 24 hrs on antibiotics. Viral infections are not helped by antibiotics and how long they are contagious depends on what it is. Bronchitis is contagious. Also remember, ear and sinus infections are OFTEN (not always though) the result of a cold gone bad and cold viruses, as we all know, are contagious. Just practice good hand washing, and have them cough into their shirts (that's what they are teaching at my kid's school now) Hope everybody is well soon.
