What kind of lotion do you use on your baby?

Johnson's doesn't seem to be helping my baby. His face looks dry.

  • Johnson & Johnson products are really bad for babies, for anyone. Read the labels and all the chemicals. In general babies don't need lotion. Petroleum products are bad because they are made from petroleum and can be absorbed through babies skin.

If you need to add moisture using an oil may help. Plain massage oil or even olive oil can be used. Some of the more "health food store type" baby products aren't as bad like California Baby, Kiss My Face, and some of the Burt's Bees Baby items.

The soap you are using may be drying baby out. Babies usually don't need soap and wipes should never be used anywhere on a baby. You can make wipes with paper towels, a small amount of castile soap, and olive oil.

  • AveenoBaby Soothing Moisture cream. Anything that is a "cream" as opposed to a "lotion" is going to be thicker and stay on longer. I also use Aquaphor on certain really dry spots right after he gets out of the bathtub if they look really dry.
