Who here knows a lot about midwives???

I am doing a report on the benefits of using a midwife rather than a doctor for a college English essay...and I need some reliable information from one or two credible websites. I know some ladies here have links memorized by heart based on the frequent debates I've seen, so I'd love it if anyone had some for me to read. They have to VALID, though. Myspace pages and facebook groups won't hold up to my teacher, no matter how accurate the information. Anything on infant mortality rates in midwife using countries compared to here would be great also, as I know I've read this info before and cannot remember where for the life of me.

  • I don't have links for you, but a story. My first was with a midwife, since that's what Kaiser provided. Stupid STUPID bitch lady. I had to rearrange my life to see ONLY her, and she couldn't be freaking bothered to show up to my delivery. I had med students and a bunch of people I never met. MD's only for me.

  • I never said there were NO bad midwives, but statistically your story happens just as often (actually, probably much MORE) with doctors. I'm also not saying all doctors are horrible, there are horrible people all around. The essay is about PROFESSIONAL midwives, not crazy people. It's also being compared to your "average" doctor, not the evil ones or the occasional hippy ones. This is not a debate on midwives and even if it were, "some lady on the Internet" is not a valid source...

Thanks to Gaill though! I often find your answers harsh, so I wondered if you were truly trying to help or annoy people. But you have been most helpful for me today, so I guess you just have your opinions! Thanks bunches!

  • My sister is a nurse/midwife (she delivered my daughter). Feel free to ask me questions

  • My daughter was delivered by 2 midwives. They were awesome. No stitches or tearing. They took their time and I didn't start pushing until I was ready.
