can i use pie crust to make those chinese cream cheese wonton's instead of wontons?

  • I wouldn't, they would be too doughy. Wonton wrappers and pie dough are 2 different things and have 2 different purposes.

  • I guess, but pie tends to be for sweets...and it'll have a different width and texture.

  • Wonton wrappers are made like pasta dough-- they have egg. The dough is more pliable and tear resistant. It can stand more abuse.

    Pie crust is a shortbread that has been rolled very very thin with no leavening. The dough will bubble up much more crisp but may crack. Work carefully and don't over work the dough if you are going to may the substitution.
