What do you ladies think?

If the Catholic priest were allowed to get married or have relationships and have sex, do you think, molestations would become less prevalent? They are regular men with regular needs but have vowed in abstinence.

  • I personally think that asking a man to be celibate for the rest of his life is asking way too much.   And quite frankly, what does it accomplish?  However I do not think it would make too much difference.  Most of these molesters are pedophiles and that is a whole different sexual issue and preference.  Blue balls and plain ol' sexual frustration can be taken care of by Mrs. Palm and her 5 daughters and a few Hail Mary's.

  • NO!! These men are pediphiles using religion as a cover. They could just as easily go out and have sex with a woman, but they choose to molest children. I think many men go into priesthood thinking it will help them or change them. These are not "normal" men who go into the church to do God's work and then end up molesting children because they are not allowed to have a sexual relationship with a woman. These are men who joined the church to try to prevent themselves or cover up their innappropriate attraction to children. What would cut down on the priests relationships with children would be prosecuting them like we would any other pervert!!!

They can't go out and have sex with a woman because they have a vow of abstinence, so they choose the innocent and threaten them not to tell a lot easier than they would a woman.
You do make a lot of sense though, about them going in the church for cover.

  • Marriage doesn't cure pedophilia nor does is stop sex outside of marriage. Marriage doesn't make anyone follow laws or morals better.

  • Nope. Sin is sin, and getting married doesn't quell lust and perversion. Only God can deal with that, and some priests aren't as close to God as they seem.

  • Ok, let's erase the marriage bit and just make it about sexual release.

  • Still applies. Again, if they are prone to that type of behavior it doesn't matter if they could have sex with any and every adult they came into contact with, it wouldn't change that.

  • I really don't see a correlation between sex w/ adult women and sex w/ young boys. I don't think it would solve that problem.
