  • We make our first priority local and and then organic. If we can buy Locally grown organic then obviously we go that route. We live in Montana though so finding local farmers who process meat humanely without antibiotics/growth hormones is fairly easy.
Luckily we are also a hunting family so we dont eat beef. Just elk and deer and then we buy chicken/pork to the specs above.
All other convenience foods (apple juice, milk, nuts, spices, etc... we buy organic.) I would be careful with brands such as Annies and Amys as they tend to lean more towards processed foods. Organic or not, its still junk.
I am also a HUGE fan of farmers markets/co ops. So important to support our local farmers.

If you arent sure where to start, watch Food, Inc. You will definitely be a local shopper then!

  • OP if cost is an issue you might consider looking into other ways to save money. such as switching your cleaning products to vinegar, baking soda, water and a little tea tree oil. ...those things alone can clean your entire house! it's the only thing i use and it's SOOOO cheap, AND environmentally friendly as well as 100x less toxic for your family.
