  • Because blacks don't get in the white (aka, "regular) history books. Because black contributions to this country have been systematically ignored by the mainstream, and because young blacks need to know that they have contributed to the progress of this world, that's why.

    Jeez, racist much?

  • I have always wondered why there is a black Mrs. America pageant. If we created a white America pageant it would be considered racist.

  • "Because blacks don't get in the white (aka, "regular) history books. Because black contributions to this country have been systematically ignored by the mainstream, and because young blacks need to know that they have contributed to the progress of this world, that's why" neither do Italian Americans. but i don't get a month because my skin is peach? the only thing history books say about my ancestors is that we brought the mafia. so who's being racist? i don't think it's fair for any race to be defined by the color of their skin. often, it has little or nothing to do with where you actually come from. i refuse to acknowledge black history month until i get my Italian history month, and my sister gets her Latino history month. how about the American Indians? they're really deserving of a history month, but all they get is reservations. i'm FAR from racist, but i think black history month is totally unfair.

  • Because its considered racist if they dont have one month for themselves. Just like it would be considered racist if the little white kid got the job/scholarship and the little black kid didn't.

  • There is such thing as Hispanic month for the person who said they "could care less why we dont have a holiday" Shes just asking a question, shes not being racist. geez! I think that no race needs a whole month or holiday. Its not right or fair to everybody else.

  • I would rather my child learn about a great inventor, doctor, scientist, etc without race being attached....I dont understand why we put them into a little box and call it "history". I think it goes against everything our HISTORY has taught us!
