Table foods

When people say to give a baby table foods, what is safe and what isn't safe? Cheese, macaroni, pasta, ect.?
I'm just a little confused on what kinds of foods would be ok for a 6 month old.

  • table foods should not be given to a 6 month old (unless its a fruit to suck on, they can choke on just regular foods and their digestive system just can't handle it yet. once your baby can sit up by themselves, has enough teeth to chew, can grab food than you may consider some soft table foods, like cheerios etc. My children started solids from table foods, but they weren't ready until they were about 10 or 11 months old.

  • That's what I was thinking but everyone is telling me to give her whatever I eat. It didn't sound right to me at all. She sits on her own but has no teeth. Thank you.

  • My pediatrician is more REAL life & not so BOOK orientated. He said anything you can sqooosh up so he doesnt choke. :) Baby food is OUR food made squishy. Dont let the other moms bully you- anything you can eat. They can eat.

  • You can give her whatever you eat that you can mash up for her. Fruits and veggies that are steamed VERY soft. We didn't start feeding ours what we were eating until around 8 months. You don't ever have to use commercial baby food, I just found it easier.

  • Ok that's more understandable. I was sitting there like, "I'm not going to just hand her a piece of chicken and watch her choke trying to eat it" lol. Thank you ladies=]

  • yes if its mashed, anything is fine EXCEPT: fish, eggs, milk, ....theres a list of foods they are not to have before 1. but other wise mash it. I wouldnt start "finger" foods until at least 9 months.
