Do you know of a situation where stimulus money was not put to good use?

I know of two examples where stimulus money was awarded but for absolutely ridiculous purposes. Do you have other examples?

  • The first was for a special education program in a public school. Because the items they purchased had to actually be inside the special education room they could not purchase ramps for the building or any type of playground equipment. The teachers bought paper and a five year supply of glue sticks to use up the money.

  • The second is for new sidewalks down the main street in a town with a population of 450 people. What's wrong with this you ask? The sidewalks were brand new less than five years ago. They basically ripped out perfectly good sidewalks and replaced them. The work was done by an out-of-state crew so there was no work for the local people.

  • Our governor gave a bunch of the stimulus money to a couple of local companies that were suppose to hire 500 & 1500 people respectively. They have both gone bankrupt, and laid off all their staff before a single job was created.
