How can I stop eating out of boredom?

I need ideas on what to do to stop eating during my dd's naptime! I workout at the gym every morning and sabotage it by coming home and eating out of boredom. I need something else to do during this time!

  • Don't sit idly. Find something active or at least "fidgety" to do to keep your self (physically and mentally busy). Chew gum. Brush teeth after every meal. Drink lots of water. Eat slow and chew really well when you do eat. Use smaller plates, measure your food. Eat small, healthy snacks when you are hungry.

  • Find something you like to do with your hands. Sewing, knitting, cross word puzzles. Anything to keep your mind and your hands busy!

  • I can't stop eating while bored. I think it makes it taste better. So I just change WHAT I eat. I don't eat junk. I chow down on steamed veggies or precooked crabmeat which is sweet and delicious but healthy and not too expensive if I buy it when it's buy one get one free.

  • I actually picked up smoking when I was 26 and that helps me. Not the best thing obviously, but that's what helped lol

  • Those are great suggestions above (other than the one about smoking, lol). I also chew minty gum or suck on a peppermint to prevent mindless nibbling. If you MUST snack, keep some baby carrot sticks or apple slices or something handy so that you'll grab those instead of chips or other unhealthy foods. Once you get into the habit of not eating when you aren't hungry, it will be easier to stick to. You need to use these types of strategies to help break the habit first. Good luck!
