Should The Census promotional items made in the USA?

OK, Blog readers, you're gonna love this one. We have a spy inside the U.S. Census Bureau, and he turned us on to this startling revelation. The ballcaps in this photo were made in China. But wait, there's more. The T-shirts were made in Nicaragua. We're not suggesting you boycott the census or anything, but doesn't it boggle the mind that these clowns aren't buying American? Just please don't blame it on Obama. Let's not go there.

  • Well we would be paying 3 times as much if they were made here.... But I agree that we don't need them at all. Just like we didn't need to make all the road signs that say "this road (or bridge) is being replaced in 2010 because of the obama stimulus" We all know where the money came from, we don't need a sign to tell us.

  • And a better question: Should there really be census promotional items? And when are the TV commercials going to stop? I sent mine in already! How much money (that we don't have) are you going to spend on this?

  • Who's fault is it that practically nothing is made in the US anymore? Clinton, Bush, Obama, Nixon? NO. OURS. Its the fault of the American People. We let this happen! The Teabaggers are upset now? This has been going on for years! Now people question these products from the census? OMG!!

  • LMAO Autumn...did you READ the article?? at ALL? Not ONE mention of the Tea party AND it said it wasnt about Obama. It IS sad that the govt (EITHER PARTY b/c I am sure this is not the only instance where this happens) can make a rule or something that it HAS to be from American companies or at LEAST strive to be American. Unfortunately then the liberal crazies would come OUT of the woodwork SCREAMING how that isnt FAIR to other countries!

Wow, use of the word teabagger shows your ignorance. ANd no one said tea party groups were UPSET... Just had difficulty finding made in America apparel... WE found them, with no need to be upset, either!!  Goodness for the insult and assumption. Your credibility is not only shot, but your inability for reading comprehension~ would that be a reflection on your intelligence?

  • Lol...I never thought about that...my daughter got a free ballcap, and your right...made in China. I guess they just try to buy from wherever its cheaper. But I do agree you should alway try to buy American made when you can, the problem is, so few things are made in America anymore.

  • OK....I do understand the point of this message. However, wouldn't some be angry if the Census decided to buy only American made products, no matter that they cost much more? Wouldn't they be wondering why we weren't cutting costs wherever possible? IMHO these products are needed in part to help identify workers. Ever worked the Census? You need to be able to readily identify yourself...an ID is provided, but the shirts and hats also help with this process.

  • I don't know. Should a WWII vet be passing out US Flags that were made in China?
