  • without sounding rude or condescending, you first need the supplies - knitting needles, yarn, pattern, stitch marker, and to know how to knit. : ) that would be a good start. usually they start with the foundation chain or row. check out the knit and crochet moms group on here, there are some really awesome knowledgeable women in there who love to help!

  • A scarf is the best and easies thting to knit, a good choice.
Best thing to do, go and find your local yarn shop. Find a nice yarn that you really really like, so you'll have some incentive to actually keep going, because it does get very frustrating when you start out.

Spend a few more $'s on a yarn that you love, and you'll love the scarf so much more than if you just get the cheapest one.
The yaqrn shops are always happy to offer advice, and m,any of them offer classes to beginners. It'll be the best $20 you'll ever spend.

    Good luck !
