Do you say Monkey in the Middle or Pickle in the Middle?

I grew up saying Pickle in the Middle and it wasn't until I met my husband, who is from a different state, that I heard it called Monkey instead.

What do you call the game and what state are you from? (I'm from PA and he's from MI)

  • Do you mean the game where 2 people throw a ball to eachother and there is a person in the middle trying to catch it?
If so then here in Ireland it's always called "Piggy in the middle" - I've never heard of the other names.

  • It's a Monkey in the middle. Pickles don't try to catch anything. How would that even work with a pickle??
