My Daughter HATES tummy time

She's about 4 mos old... and tummy time is torture for her. We tried to get her on her boppy, or on some fun cute toy that had cool stuff to look at, no such luck. We thought it was a gas issue in the past, but we made some changes to her formula, talked to the pediatrician... and the gas is gone, but the hatred for tummy time is still there!! We try just a few minutes every day... and she screams bloody murder until we flip her over . As soon as she's on her back, she's good to go. She's not getting "used" to it, and I feel like I'm torturing her!! Any tips?

  • Tummy time was invented when there started being developmental problems related to the back to sleep SIDS campaign. If your baby spends most of it's time on it's back or in containers like car seats, swings, seats, ect. the head can get out of shape and development can be delayed.

Instead of tummy time you can hold your baby, carry your baby in carriers, and play with your baby. Do things that requires the baby to hold it's head up. They have never heard of tummy time in most of the world.

  • Yeah - it is not necessary!!
yes - they need to strenghten their necks and backs but they do this through lots of different movements they already do - and there are times they will be on their tummy for fun - not for "tummy time" - so scrap it and put you both out of the misery!

  • do it on your stomach or just hold her upright so she gets neck muscles, if she hates it don't do it.

  • Mine hated tummy time too. We stopped doing it. But he was always on his tummy while nursing and developed great head and neck control far earlier than most of his age mates.
