Will the carseat "know it all's" please stand up! and answer me this question

My son is in a high back booster and he is 48 inches and 40 lbs. should he still have the back attached or should he go backless?
The back of his head is even with the back of the seat, is this okay?

  • Here are some vids that might help you in deciding if he's ready for a booster with back/ no back- or needing to go back to a 5 pt. harness...

  • yes, it is ok but at 40 ibs you are allowed to remove the back. Just went through all this info with wic carseat program lol

  • It depends on how tall the seat of your vehicle is. When he sits in his booster does he have some head support behind his head from your vehicle seat? If so, he will be ok in a backless booster. If not, he need the high back booster.

  • I think that when his head is higer than the back rest,, you take it off,, check on the carseat and see what the weight/height requirements are,, he might be too heavy for your brand.

  • 40 pounds is still light enough for some 5 pt. harness carseats... If the lap part of the belt is in any way over his tummy, and not over his pelvic bones- he's too small for a boster, getting in to an accident- he might stay restrained but he could be injured internally from te lap belt pushing his internal organs up against his spine...

There is a 5 pt harness carseat that you can rear- or forward face up to 85 pounds. After85 pds you could move him to his booster. My daughter was in a booster until she was 9 because they can not sit in a regular seat until their knees can reach over the edge of the seat and shoulder belt go over their chest (not neck)...
