How long has your BF baby gone without a bowel movement?

Mine's going on 5 days here and I'm starting to get concerned...she doesn't seem unhappy or uncomfortable and I know BF babies can go longer it time for a suppository? I gave her prunes yesterday...
btw - she's 10 months and does also eat some solids...

  • BF babies can go 7-8 days without one. formula fed take usually less time due to the fillers in formula. unless you notice some discomfort or lumps in the abdomen from being backed up, don't worry about it.

  • My daughter would go days and often got constipated, prunes always seemed to work for her, then she would have a massive poop. My boys, probably not more than a few hours :)

  • One time my oldest went 11 days without a poopy diaper. Oh the mess when he finally had one. O_O

If she is not complaining and her stool is loose when she does poop, there is nothing to worry about.

  • The record I've heard is over two weeks. If the poop isn't hard, they're not constipated.

However, with solids in the mix, you might want to look at what she's eating. Do you have a lot of grains (cereals) in her diet - they can stop you up, especially if they have added iron.

But if she's not uncomfortable, she's fine.
