Do you teach your kids about Earth Day?

What ways do you do it? There are Earth Day activities and a free downloadable coloring page about it http://www.cjkidz.com/ and lots of other information about it, but I was just wondering if many parents really acknowledge it with their kids (talking, activities, etc)

  • no, i know the school does. we do stuff all through the year. My son is very curious about the planet and animals. We teach him to recycle and not to litter. I think its good that the school teaches it.

  • My daughters school has been doing a whole lesson on Earth Day, recycling, saving the planet..Its amazing she comes home with little facts everyday. She even said " Mommy we should start a compost pile and recycle more." They even have a recycling program at school, whoever brings in the most things wins something.

  • No - it's my MIL's bday so we tend to celebrate that more than Earth Day. We recycle year round, and talk about not littering, being "green" (riding bikes instead of driving, saving electricity, etc) but we don't do it specifically on Earth Day.

  • Nope. Earth Day is a crock. You can't worship God in the public schools but they have an Earth Day so you can worship dirt and trees. So glad we homeschool.

  • Yes. His private school is very much focused on the environment and being good stewards of the Earth. It was one of the many reasons why we were attracted to the school. They practice being good to our planet each day but Earth Day is an extra special learning day about how to care for ourselves by caring about our planet.

  • We homeschool as well, we didn't do a unit on earth day this year, honestly because we focus on this quite a bit. We talk and do activities on the environment quite frequently.

How can anyone be against Earth Day? It's not about worshiping the Earth, it's about keeping our planet healthy.

From a religious perspective, how can you be against a day that celebrates the home god gave us?

  • We do a few fun recycling/reuse crafts but we don't make a big deal about earth day because we cover those themes regularly throughout the year.
