    ok key word: toddler.

toddlers can toddle their little butts to the toilet, with you in tow, to help them wipe and zip.

you do not dole out diapers for pooping.

  • Mine still are in pull ups all the time but I've heard that this is very common. It's a control thing but could also be a comfort thing. I'm sure there are toddlers who ask for the diaper and poop right away and others who take longer which isn't much different from those of us long out of diapers: some are in and out of the bathroom in a flash and others need some time.

If your toddler is taking a long time to poop, perhaps he/she is a little constipated? You can try increasing water and fiber intake and see if that makes it more comfortable to have a bowel movement. You may also wish to discuss it with your pediatrician. He/she may suggest using a stool softener. There was a great article in Parents magazine a few months back on young children and chronic constipation. Worth giving a read.
