white collars--- are they just for the Catholic priest?

I see shows with a religious leader wearing a black shirt with a white collar. Is there just an unproportionally large amount of Catholic priest used in television shows? Or is this a uniform I associate with the Catholic Church but is used in many other denominations.

  • They actually started out in the Protestant church. I know that Lutheran and Episcopalian ministers often wear them. You're right, though, it is now associated with the Catholic priest.
