Why can't spanish just be our second language?

I hear alot of people bitching about our neighbors to the south not learning English. Yeah they're invading our country and should learn English. I get that and I agree with it. But I think if they have to learn English as a second language, shouldn't we learn spanish as a second language? I mean, look at England and France. They both speak English and French. I think it would eliminate alot of boundaries in this country if we try to communicate with those who do not understand instead of sticking our noses in the air whenever we don't know what thehy are saying.

  • Not Panicking your right, they didnt. But hernando Cortez had conquered whats now mexico city less than 20 yrs after Christopher comlumbus arrived here.

Since the west wasnt really settled by whites until the gold rush in 1849, most native people would probably have been speaking spanish, along with thier native tongue
